Fiat is launching a new special edition 500 at the Geneva Motor Show – the Abarth 695 Tributo Maserati – a convertible Abarth 500. Almost three years ago Fiat produced a limited edition Abarth 500 that paid tribute to Ferrari – the Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari – which cam with decent oomph, a bright red Ferrari paint job and an eye-watering price tag of £30k. Now Fiat feel it’s time to pay tribute to another marque in its portfolio – and relieve punters of a further slice of hard-earned – with the Abarth 695 Tributo Maserati – this time a soft-top – arriving at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
The Obama administration today proposed gasoline mileage and greenhouse-gas pollution standards for new vehicles for model years 2012 to 2015, filling in the blanks for manufacturers en route to a 35.5 mpg national target in 2016. The Transportation Department and EPA proposal calls for fuel economy to increase by about 5 percent each year, starting from an average of 27.3 mpg for the 2011 model year, the agencies said in a statement. The average car buyer would save more than $3,000 in fuel costs over the life of a vehicle, the statement said.

Supercar companies spring up all over the place with men in sheds thinking they can take on established supercar makers and take a part of the supercar market in the process. Most fail to get beyond CAD renderings of their dream, but a new Supercar company from Mexico – Vuhl – has the help of established automotive industry names like Ford and Magna Steyr, and they’re promising to reveal their new car – the VUHL 05 – at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.
